As a new mother, Danielle excitedly anticipated breastfeeding her newborn, only to discover that she struggled to produce enough milk to satisfy her baby’s needs. She was devastated, feeling like she had failed her child and was guilty and ashamed for having to turn to formula feeding. She wished she had known that some women don’t produce enough milk for breastfeeding and the importance of not beating oneself up over it. According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, up to 25 percent of women are unable to produce enough breast milk to exclusively feed their infant.
